PhD Seminar

Title Lecturer Institute Mode Type Days Hrs. Crd. ID
PhD Seminar on Earth System Modelling various MPI-M seminar weekly once per week 1.5 1+1 S_35
Interdisciplinary seminar open to all doctoral students (only during lecture times)

Targets:

* practical exercise to give scientific presentations
* practical exercise for open discussions
* interdisciplinary introduction to topics in Earth system science
* Networking of doctoral students

Mode: Forum for introducing current results of running PhD studies

All doctoral students of the University of Hamburg interested in Earth System Modelling or related topics are invited to participate in this interdisciplinary seminar. It offers a forum for Ph.D. students to present recent work, practice oral presentations and plenary discussions as well as to learn about the studies of fellow students. The heterogeneous audience provides a basis for interdisciplinary discussions and contacts.

The content and the form of the presentations (~30 minutes) which are given by the Ph.D. students can be very diverse. Possible contributions concern e.g. recently finished or unfinished work, a tutorial on a specific research topic or the presentation and discussion of an important scientific paper. Students in their 1st year of doctoral research are invited to give a presentation of their MSc thesis.

For IMPRS-ESM doctoral students based in Hamburg or at the GKSS, participation is strongly encouraged (partaking in > 80% of the meetings per term). Further, all PhD students should give an oral presentation once per year.

Please sign up for a time slot with one of the current organizers (armelle.remedio[at]zmaw.de and christine.radermacher[at]zmaw.de). The topic (title and a short abstract) of an upcoming seminar should be announced prior to the meeting via the seminar mailing list imprs-seminar[at]lists.zmaw.de.
